The Malta Shooting Federation will organise the Malta International Trap Grand Prix at its Bidnija ranges between today and Sunday.

The opening ceremony was held yesterday with various distinguished personalities attending the activity. Among those present were the 60 participants, half of whom are foreigners mainly from Italy and England.

The first 50 clays of the competition will be shot today and the other 50 tomorrow. Sunday starts with the remaining 25 clays before the top six qualify for the barrage final in the afternoon.

The winner receives $700 and $300 go to the runner-up.

The Grand Prix was inaugurated yesterday by Minister of Education, Youth and Employment Louis Galea.

He highlighted the importance of the event and other aspects such as sports tourism.

"It has always been the intention of the Shooting Federation to promote Malta as a prime location for sports tourism," he said.

"The Grand Prix also provides a good opportunity for the Maltese to see some of the finest shooters in action. They will be making a name in future international events.

"All in all, the Grand Prix provides an excellent opportunity to see healthy competition at its best together with collaboration and cooperation through sports."
