Vittoriosa mayor John Boxall yesterday testified in his defence and denied ever tampering with the electricity meter of the local council offices.
Mr Boxall testified before Magistrate Anthony Vella in the compilation of evidence against him.
He is pleading not guilty to stealing Lm190 worth of electricity from the Vittoriosa local council, situated in Couvre Porte, between August and November 2004.
He is also pleading not guilty to supplying a restaurant with electricity from the service box at the council and accepting payment for the electricity supplied.
Mr Boxall denied stealing the electricity or ever authorising anyone to make use of it. The local council offices were situated in an area accessed by many as there was a restaurant and a café there, he told the court.
The case continues.
Police Inspector Alfred Mallia is prosecuting.
