The Island Car Club will hold another event from the Hillclimb Championship on Sunday in Mellieha.
First participants at Ta' Penellu will leave the paddock area at 9 a.m. The start will be situated at the entrance to Ghadira Bay. Mellieha is one of the few venues where the road is wide enough and drivers can work their way up concentrating mainly on their driving. The event follows the successful series held recently in Gozo.
Topping the championship standings at present is Lino Brincat with his single-seater Alfa Romeo Dallara.
He is followed by Hubert Camilleri (Chevron). Third overall is Matthew Zammit. He drives a Van Diemen.
All three form part of the Group 6 racing which is one of the most exciting championship classes.
In other categories, the modified saloons are leaving their mark. On certain tracks, these cars look more suited than the single seaters.
Nicolai Degiorgio, driving a Lancia Integrale 2.0L turbo, finished on the podium twice - third in Mizieb and first overall in Mistra.
Another serious contender is Mark Galea (Subaru). So far he managed a fourth place overall in Xaghra.
On Sunday, a new Suzuki road car will be launched during the hillclimb.
