Talks in Yemen by Labour MEP

Illegal immigration and increased Libyan-Maltese cooperation on the issue were discussed during a private meeting in Yemen between Labour MEP John Attard Montalto and Libya's Secretary of Foreign Affairs Suleiman al Shahoumi.

Dr Attard Montalto said Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg had for some months been trying to send back to Libya a number of irregular immigrants who entered Malta after leaving from Libya.

He urged Mr al Shahoumi to be aware of this situation, arguing that Malta is unable to cope with the large influx of irregular immigrants.

Both Dr Attard Montalto and Mr al Shahoumi are in Yemen on separate missions.
