Naxxar school students join Train of Friendship

A group of youths from Furtu Selvatico Boys' School, Naxxar joined students from different European countries in the sixth edition of a project called European Train of Friendship which was held in Italy

Accompanied by their teachers Doris Sarlo and Herman Baldacchino, the Maltese students first visited Rome and then proceeded to Bari where they were hosted by the A. de Viti de Marco School of Triggiano and lived with families of students from the same school.

They took part in the Corteo di San Nicola, carrying the Friendship Banner, which had been made by the students themselves during art lessons conducted by Mr Baldacchino.

The Maltese participants joined other European students on visits to Italian World Heritage sites such as I Sassi of Matera and I Trulli of Alberobello.

They also had the opportunity to screen two videos - Dawra Mar-Rotunda (A tour of the Rotunda) and Mdina - produced by the students of Furtu Selvatico School specifically for the project.

The Naxxar school has been invited to take part in next year's edition of the European Train of Friendship.

"The Maltese students were excellent ambassadors of Malta. Their work, good manners and courtesy impressed their peers, the host families and the authorities. Many students, teachers and families said they hope to visit the Maltese students in Malta in the near future," a spokesman for the Naxxar school said.
