A Marsascala man was yesterday charged with trying to seriously injure his wife and two daughters and threatening to kill his wife over the past two years.
Magistrate Lawrence Quintano heard the 46-year-old man pleaded not guilty to assaulting his wife and trying to seriously injure her and their two children over the past three months.
He also pleaded not guilty to trying to grievously injure his wife in the past two years, trying to steer her car into a wall and with driving dangerously.
The man was also charged with using threatening language such as "I'll get rid of you" and "I'll blow up the flat and all", keeping and carrying a bread knife without a licence, offending public morals and relapsing.
During yesterday's sitting defence lawyers Philip Galea Farrugia and Michael Tanti Dougall called on the court to grant their client bail.
They argued that although it was true that there had been trouble in the family for the past two years, the allegations made by the wife - separation proceedings were pending - were false.
Magistrate Quintano turned down the request for bail at this stage.
Police Inspector Anthony Cassar prosecuted.
