PM stresses reasons for adopting euro

The Prime Minister argued yesterday that the adoption of the euro would be a positive certificate for the government, which was why Labour was opposing its introduction before the election.

Dr Gonzi said on Radio 101 that adopting the euro would mean Malta had become more competitive. It would also mean Malta was part of a region that observed rules that ensured currency stability.

He accused Dr Sant of being arrogant having held a press conference in Gozo on his party's policies for the sister island while, at the same time, coming up with every excuse to keep Ghajnsielem separate from the Gozo electoral district.

The Prime Minister underlined economic performance, saying GDP growth last year was 2.5 per cent and 4,000 new jobs were created. He said government policies would yield greater job opportunities in Gozo.

At meetings in Paris last week, French investors had shown real interest in Malta owing to its stability and EU membership, Dr Gonzi said.
