Some 2,500 people are estimated to have visited the annual exhibition of scale models organised by the Association of Scale Models.

The exhibition, open for a week up to yesterday, featured some 800 pieces, notably scale model aircraft, naval and merchant ships, military vehicles and figurines. The exhibition was held at the Valletta Waterfront.

Association secretary Joe Farrugia said the hobby of scale modelling was enjoying a revival after having dipped somewhat. This was evident not just from the sale of models but also the sale of specialised magazines, reflecting attention to detail.

Model aircraft remains the most popular, but interest is also growing in model cruise ships, he said. The association, which is celebrating its silver jubilee, also held an exhibition of photographs of its activities over the years.
