Marcus Gronholm's pursuit of championship leader Sebastien Loeb suffered a huge blow when he was forced to retire from the Rally of Italy after crashing his Ford (picture) yesterday. The Finn, second in the championship on 35 points, 21 behind Loeb, went into yesterday's eighth stage with a 40-second advantage over his main rival before he hit a rock and was forced to retire. Neither Gronholm nor his co-pilot were injured, although their car was a write-off.
