I would like to draw the attention of the authorities who grant permission to two neighbouring clubs in a residential area at Qormi to hold a rowdy disco. It seems that it has become the practice for a disco to be held after celebrations are over. The revellers make a mess of the streets with broken beer bottles and all sorts or rubbish strewn all over the quiet, respectable area.
These discos normally take place after the morning band marches. A disco was held in one club on Easter Sunday after the morning march which accompanied the procession of the Risen Christ. The behaviour of some of revellers left much to be desired.
This is nothing new to this area which is inhabited mostly by elderly people. Now we are forced to have two clubs which make matters worse. One other club was granted permission to play loud 'jungle' music to celebrate the football club's promotion to the First Division from noon to 4.30 p.m. The local police said that there was nothing they could do, as permission had been granted.
Could the police consider the circumstances of these unruly celebrations and take action very soon before these 'celebrations' take a stable 'status' against the peaceful lifestyle of the neighbours? The feast of St George will be celebrated next month and the usual disgusting disco will be held.
