A new pre-plating catering system was inaugurated last Wednesday at Gozo General Hospital. The system should ensure that patients are offered a much improved service.

The new system involves a more hygienic method for food preparation and presentation, adding quality to the food on offer from the hospital kitchen. It also allows kitchen staff to prepare meals in individual plates placed in specially formulated trays that are inserted into a state-of-the-art cooling and heating trolley. The trays are then delivered to the patients with food that has been kept at the right temperature. The project also involved training staff on modern practices of food preparation and distribution in hospitals.

Minister Giovanna Debono said that the Ministry for Gozo's investment over the last seven years to improve health and ancillary services on the island is now bearing fruit. This is evidenced by the upgrading of all the hospital's wards, the introduction of new services and the upgrading of existing ones. She added that her ministry was committed to improve the quality of life for both in- and out-patients, irrespective of their length of stay.
