Last year, staff and students at Dr Godwin Ganado Primary in Mtarfa embarked on a Comenius project entitled "Our culture, our environment".
In March, a member of administration and a teacher attended the second project meeting at Bure-Park Primary in Bicester, Oxford. There they met Polish, Spanish and English teachers and administrators from the partner schools.
They discussed, planned and exchanged students' work and letters. Students in all partner schools also worked on "Feasts and Festivals" and produced interesting and colourful calendars of Maltese festas, celebrated every month in summer.
Ms Medati and Ms Cachia toured the school and observed what went on in the classrooms at Bure-Park, which are on a ground open plan. There are no stairs anywhere on the premises and one could see what takes place through glass doors and windows.
The accessibility of many teaching aids and resources outside each classroom was a feature unknown to Maltese schools. Every class is equipped with an overhead projector and an interactive screen. The participants had the time to talk with pupils, teachers and administrators about various aspects of teaching and learning. It was an enriching experience of sharing and widening perspectives.
