I would like to convey my appreciation and that of many other proud parents who were lucky enough to watch a highly professional show in memory of St Emily, the patron saint of St Joseph schools, on the 150th anniversary of her death.

Those responsible for this excellent performance included a strong cast of 350 pupils from the junior school. We parents probably did not realise the huge amount of work and effort put into this event and if we have grumbled about why our children have dedicated so much time to it the answer was given on show day when all the parents and relatives gave a standing ovation to all those taking part including the director, producer, back stage staff, heads and the young actors, singers and dancers.

The show allowed the children to develop new skills of presentation, enhanced their personality and gave them the confidence which sometimes is so lacking in our education system, which mainly focuses on certificates. It was definitely not a waste of time but an investment in the continued education of our children in this competitive world.
