The first official Field Target outdoor airgun competition was held recently by the Malta Airgun Shooting Club (MASC) at the Victoria Range.
In all, 17 MASC members took part in a testing challenge on 30 targets spread on a range of between 15 and 50 metres. The response was encouraging and the association is planning other competitions along the year, events that will become useful for Maltese shooters in their build-up for international events.
Hitting the small 40mm targets from different positions proved rather difficult on the day due to the strong winds. The winner was Anthony Fardell, with 110 points, followed by Eric Camilleri, 100, and Gordon Gouder, 90.
The MASC is recognised by the World Field Target Federation.
Arrangements are currently underway to invite foreign teams, particularly Italians, to conduct training camps in Malta along with MASC members.
