The recent spate of arson attacks against those - be they Jesuits, journalists or newspaper columnists - who have shown solidarity with immigrants is an affront, not only against the fundamental human right to freedom of expression, but to democracy itself. It is about time this nation woke up from its collective slumber. As history has repeatedly demonstrated, freedom and democracy must never to be taken for granted.

Furthermore, local closet racists who parade as sanctimonious Christians should by now have come to terms with the fact that racism and Christianity are incompatible. It is as simple as that.
