Let's practise what we preach

I am what one might describe as a staunch Nationalist and I have always voted for the Nationalist Party.

However, I was very disturbed when I came to know that the government had given permission for scenes of The Da Vinci Code, especially the "Marriage of Christ with Mary Magdalene" to be filmed in Malta.

Is it possible that those responsible did not know what the whole thing was about? Does not this make them accomplices in perpetrating a falsehood? We have always boasted about being a Christian party and such an action belies what we proclaim.

If, after this, the government compounds its error by letting the film be released, I will never vote Nationalist again but will cast my vote elsewhere.

After all, in a democratic society, it is the prerogative of the citizen to show his disapproval of a political party's doings.
