It is incredible how in the year 2006, living in post-modernity, there still exist situations where little children are obliged to earn their living sorting rubbish. Before coming to Malta I passed from Lima and went to visit a garbage town. What I saw was incredible. There were so many children with swollen eyes because of the infections they got while sorting rubbish to earn some money.
This is the situation of most of the Pueblos Jovenes, poor villages created around the main cities. Arequipa, the white city in the south of Peru, where the Missionary Society of Saint Paul has been helping for the last 30 years, is in an equally dire situation. Daily we have to face so many poor children and elderly not only with nutrition needs but also with health difficulties.
I am writing to thank all benefactors who still show great solidarity with the missions today.
I thank all Kalkara benefactors who persevere in sending Lm1 a month to help a child with a decent daily meal.
I also thank the Centru Animazzjoni Missjunarja for all donations sent. I am writing also to thank especially the Mission Fund for the donation of $1,385 which they have recently sent to Peru.
