Opel Astra TwinTop redefines 'convertible'

The new Opel Astra TwinTop, launched in Malta by United Automobile Limited, is already making a name for itself thanks to its stylish, innovative three-piece solid roof section. The new technology used in designing this innovative roof does not only enhance the aesthetic qualities of the car but also means that the roof can fold in to a smaller space so that two adults can sit comfortably in the back seats.

"The use of three-piece roof technology means the arrival of a solution for all those who dream of having a convertible car but who hold back because of the practical limitations of reduced space for luggage and passengers," Edmund Gatt Baldacchino, UAL managing director, said.

"The Astra TwinTop not only provides ample room for passengers in the back seats but, through another innovation, the 'Easy Load' system, it also provides plenty of space for luggage."

The individual sections of the TwinTop's three-piece roof are smaller than in conventional convertibles and so can be stowed in the boot without robbing all of the luggage space or needing an odd-looking rear end. The result is that, with the top up, the car has 440 litres of luggage space, which is more that the Astra five-door.

With the top down there is still 205 litres of space available. The state-of-the-art 'Easy Load' system allows drivers, at the touch of a button, to raise the stowed roof parts in the boot upwards by around 250 mm, allowing much easier access.
