A 38-year-old man was yesterday given a one-year jail term suspended for four years after he admitted to stealing a cheque book and defrauding a company of Lm1,450.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi heard the man plead guilty to stealing the cheque book to the detriment of J&R Vassallo Limted, making use of the cheque book and defrauding the company in January 2005.

The magistrate also placed the man under the care of a supervision officer for three years.

The name of the man is not being published by court order.

Police Inspector Kevin Borg prosecuted.
