All those trying to get through to the EU internet network and various other related websites may have noticed that all EU institutions are redirecting internet users to a new web identity.

This change became operative as from Tuesday when all the European institutions' sites started operating under the ".eu" top level domain and all the institutions' internet addresses changed to the ".eu" suffix.

The main EU source of information on the net, EUROPA.eu has now become the single internet "brand" and the single online entry point to all the EU institutions and agencies. The institutions' current ".eu.int" addresses will continue to be accessible for a transitional period of at least one year.

The change will also effect European Commission e-mail addresses. Those with the current format firstname.lastname@cec.eu.int will now become firstname.lastname@ec.europa.eu.

The cost of this change is estimated to reach €430.000 euros in informatics hardware and manpower.
