Talks continued yesterday between the Bakers' Cooperative and the government over the bakers' claim to an increase in the price of bread or compensation for higher production costs.

The discussions kicked off on Wednesday afternoon and, according to Bakers' Cooperative president Karmenu Micallef, they should continue over the coming days.

Asked whether any progress had been registered in yesterday's round of talks, Mr Micallef declined to comment, saying only that at this stage "foundations are being laid".
