A Cospicua man was yesterday given a 18-month jail term suspended for four years after he confessed to trying to burgle the house of an elderly woman last month.

Benny Muscat, 41, also admitted to damaging the main door of the woman's Santa Venera house in his attempt to break in on April 9.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera noted that Mr Muscat had cooperated with the police and had filed an early guilty plea.

She handed down a suspended jail term and placed the accused under a supervision order for four years.

Police Inspector Mario Bonello prosecuted.
