A magistrate yesterday heard how a 26-year-old man from Zabbar was charged with theft after a police constable noticed him lurking suspiciously close to a car from which a stereo had been stolen.
Eman Zammit pleaded not guilty to stealing the stereo on Tuesday morning and disobeying the police, insulting police officers and relapsing.
Magistrate Lawrence Quintano heard Police Inspector Anthony Cassar explain that when the constable, who knew Mr Zammit, called him, the accused ran away. The constable also noticed Mr Zammit dump a plastic bag as he ran.
It eventually resulted that the bag contained a car stereo that had been stolen from a nearby car.
Mr Zammit, who appeared unattended, was remanded in police custody.
