Hunting fine

Recently, the European Commission showed its concern that the Maltese government could have incorrectly applied a derogation permitting spring hunting.

If this is true, Malta will have to pay a heavy fine for breaching article 9 of the Birds Directive.

Since I am neither a hunter nor do I approve of any form of hunting, I do not wish to pay any taxes towards such a fine.

If the European Commission penalises the Maltese authorities, it would be only fair for this to be paid by the hunters themselves upon renewal of their shotgun licence. No matter how much it will then cost.

After all, they are the only section of the population enjoying the benefits of spring hunting.
