A 20-year-old man was yesterday jailed for two years after he pleaded guilty to stealing a Mercedes Benz from a showroom and using it to break into another showroom from where he tried to steal.
Daniel Lanzon, of Cospicua, pleaded guilty to stealing the Mercedes from Raymond Autodealer, in Zebbug, and driving the vehicle into J&M Micallef Showroom, also in Zebbug, with the intention to burgle it.
He also admitted to stealing a Skoda Felicia from the Mosta Techno Park, stealing tools from another car in Qormi, trying to break into Waldorf Showroom, in Zebbug, and breaching the conditions of a previous release.
Magistrate Giovanni Grixti, who presided over the case, noted that Mr Lanzon's criminal record left much to be desired and he had been given several chances to change his ways.
The magistrate also heard that Mr Lanzon had admitted to the charges as he was willing to face the punishment due to him and this as a first step towards opening a new chapter in his life.
While hoping that this would be so, the magistrate ruled that Mr Lanzon's actions still deserved to be punished by imprisonment.
Police Inspectors Joseph Mercieca and Maria Stella Attard prosecuted.
