The Hakuna Matata Animal Education Project Malta will hold an animal welfare fund-raising event on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St Nicholas Square, in Siggiewi.
There will be a raffle with prizes donated by corporate bodies and items on sale donated by the local community and the Siggiewi primary school children, who have adopted Amadeus, a three-month old puppy, as their mascot. Amadeus was abandoned in Siggiewi last weekend.
Fiona Brennan-Spiteri, for Hakuna Matata, said that the organisation's monthly costs to rescue, shelter and care for animals exceeded Lm300. So it urgently needed the public's support to be able to continue with its work.
Hakuna Matata works in association with the Department of Education to bring the welfare message to local communities through fund-raising events and education tutorials in schools.
"Our mission is to help end the abandonment of animals to the streets of Malta. This requires a great community effort," she said.
Anyone who would like to donate prizes for the raffle and/or sponsor dogs should contact Ms Brennan-Spiteri on 7931 4817.
