Five people were arraigned in court for alleged cruelty to animals in the first quarter of this year, half the number for the whole of last year, information given in Parliament yesterday shows.

There were 30 arraignments in 2002, 16 in 2003 and one in 2004, Home Minister Tonio Borg told Noel Farrugia (MLP) in reply to a parliamentary question yesterday .
