A man has been given a 13-month jail term suspended for a year after he admitted to trying to seriously injure his wife and his toddler son last June.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti heard the 46-year-old San Gwann man admit to assaulting and trying to injure his wife and their son, who was one-and-a-half years-old, in their San Gwann home on June 12, 2005.

The name of the accused is not being published to protect the identity of the woman and the child.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted.
