Obituary

ANASTASI. On April 29, at St James Hospital, Sliema, LINA, aged 81, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her sister Maria Casolani, her brother Hugh, her brother-in-law Edgar Micallef, her sister-in-law Carmen, her nephew and nieces, relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
Mass praesente cadavere will be said today at 9 a.m. at Stella Maris parish church, Sliema.

VELLA BONDIN. On May 1, MELITA, widow of Carmel, aged 96, of Sta Venera, passed peacefully away at St Luke's Hospital, comforted by the rites of the Holy Church. She was dearly loved and is deeply mourned and lovingly remembered by her children Mary, Joseph, John and his wife Grace, Carmen S.D.C. (Museum, Birkirkara), Suor M. Pasqualina OP, Rita and her husband Frans, Ernest and his wife Susie, Anthony and his wife Cynthia, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, families and fiancées, cousins, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 2 p.m. for Sta Venera parish church, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m. followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to St Joseph Home, Zabbar, will be appreciated.

Surgical master class

The Association of Surgeons of Malta is to hold a surgical master class at the Medical School Conference Hall between May 11 and 13. An attendance certificate will be issued after the conference and six CME points will be awarded to participants.

Provincial Chapter

The Carmelite Friars yesterday met at the Lunzjata Retreat House in Rabat to celebrate their Provincial Chapter.  

The Provincial Chapter, which is held every three years, is presided over by the Prior General of the Carmelite Order Fr Joseph Chalmers, and is due to end on Friday. In this Chapter, the Friars are expected to evaluate their Carmelite life in the Maltese Province and lay out a plan for the coming three years.

After the celebration of the Eucharist, which opened the Provincial Chapter, the Prior General confirmed the election of Fr Alexander Vella as Prior Provincial, and the election of Fr Charles Mallia, Fr Maurice Abela, Fr Michael Farrugia and Fr Martin D. Schembri as Provincial Counsellers.  

The Prior Provincial chose Fr Jürgen Cucciardi as Provincial Secretary.

Talk on lupus

Prof. Albert Fenech will deliver a talk on Lupus And The Heart, at the Malta Playing Fields Headquarters, King George V Recreational Grounds in Floriana on Saturday at 10 a.m.
