On May 18, the FHRD is organising a conference with the theme 'Coaching and Mentoring - How can they enhance performance ?'

For this conference the FHRD has invited two keynote speakers. Professor David Clutterbuck, of Clutterbuck Associates, UK, specialises in helping people in organisations develop the skills to help others.

He is one of Europe's most prolific and well known management writers and thinkers, and co-founder of The European Mentoring and Coaching Council.

The second speaker is Dr Paul D. Micallef, a chartered clinical psychologist working as a consultant in staff training and development at the Ministry of Health, the Elderly and Community Care in Malta and as a clinician in private practice.

Professor Clutterbuck will talk on 'Mentoring, Coaching and the Effective Manager', highlighting differences between coaching and mentoring and how these support the organisation in retaining and developing talent. He will also cover the competencies of effective coaches and mentors, and how companies can ensure that their investments in coaching and mentoring deliver rapid and substantial results.

Dr Micallef's presentation will focus on the 'Psychology of Performance' and will highlight how people and their softer skills are essential to the success and performance of any organisation especially at times of turbulence, adjustment and change.

He will outline how coaching and mentoring allow direct access to the bedrock of an organisation, while tapping into people's beliefs, emotions, knowledge and value base.

Following these presentations, delegates will choose one of the following workshops for discussion in groups:

How can we create a culture that supports coaching and mentoring? What will make an effective coach/mentor in the Maltese context? How can coaching and mentoring assist organisations and individuals in managing change?

The keynote speakers will proceed by giving feedback on the findings of these group discussions.

On the eve of the conference the FHRD will be offering the opportunity to HR and training practitioners to meet the two keynote speakers during a reception.

Bookings for both events are to be made through Ms Sandra Agius on 2137-8895 or by e-mail on sagius@fhrd.org.
