Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi yesterday visited Kalafrana Road to see progress on its reconstruction, which is being made through EU funds.
The road links the Freeport to the Hal Far area, including the industrial zone. It is almost three km long and will cost €5 million. The project includes 3,200 m of cycling lanes.
Dr Gonzi said this was an important project for the country as it would facilitate access to the Freeport and the industrial zone.
Other roads currently being rebuilt with EU funds include the road to the airport and the road linking Victoria and San Lawrenz in Gozo.
The rebuilding of the St Paul's Bay Bypass will be taken in hand in the coming days.
Such projects, Dr Gonzi said, showed the Labour Party's deception, which used to claim that Malta would only receive Lm1.5 million in EU funds.
He pointed out that the government had also rebuilt roads in the industrial zones of Mriehel, Mosta, Tal-Handaq and Zebbug.
