A Zebbug man has been jailed for a year and fined Lm100 when he admitted to trafficking in heroin because he was an addict, passing on drugs to others without making a profit only to buy his fix.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano heard Joseph Zammit, 26, plead guilty to dealing in the drug on and before November 2001.

The magistrate noted that in his statement Mr Zammit had said: "I was a drug addict with no cash and ended up passing on drugs to others without payment, other than getting my fix".

Police Superintendent Neil Harrison prosecuted.

Lawyer Chris Cardona appeared for Mr Zammit.
