Lufthansa Technik (Malta), which carries out aircraft maintenance, is preparing for the expansion of its production here next October, company chief executive Louis Giordimaina said on Wednesday.

An encouraging number of workers have answered a call for applications and interviews to recruit staff for the new production line will start soon, he said.

Mr Giordimaina was speaking during a visit by the Prime Minister to the company's base in Luqa.

Lufthansa Technik employs 124 workers and has 60 apprentices.

The company is collaborating with the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology by holding a training course on aircraft maintenance for apprentices.
