Malta wrapped up their commitments in the Slovakia Under-18 International Tournament on a positive note after beating Hungary 1-0 yesterday.
The winning goal for Malta was netted by forward Quilin Refalo in the opening half. Throughout the 90 minutes, the Maltese team, led by coach Edwin Camilleri, who was assisted by Charles Scerri, were compact and unyielding while at the same time they put up some good, positive fare.
It was a sound performance and a commendable result for the Maltese youngsters against a Hungary team who had drawn their two other group matches against the United States 2-2, and Slovakia 1-1.
By virtue of this win, Malta ended in third place behind the US who lost to Slovakia, winners of Group A, 2-1 yesterday.
The host country will now meet the Czech Republic, who topped the other group, for the Slovakia Cup, while the US will face Poland in a match for third place.
Malta suffered successive defeats against Slovakia (1-0) and US (3-1) in their first two outings in this competition.
