A postman has been cleared of stealing mail after a magistrate heard that the allegations had been made by his estranged wife who did not testify in the case.

Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona heard how in May 2001 the postman's wife had filed a police report claiming he stole mail and took it home where he opened it.

At the time of the report, the couple was undergoing separation proceedings.

The magistrate noted that the woman had not testified against her husband and the police had not proven the allegations she made.

Lawyers José Herrera and Roberto Montalto were defence counsel.
