A Libyan man, who was apprehended at the airport allegedly carrying cannabis hidden in his shoes, was yesterday jailed for three years and fined Lm2,000 for importing the drug. Saad Eabaied, 38, pleaded guilty to conspiring to deal in 325 grammes of cannabis resin and importing the drug into Malta from Tripoli in June 2004.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti presided over the case.

Police Inspector Nezren Grixti prosecuted.
