I refer to the letter by Albert Dimech (April 20) and Francis Cassar (April 26) on the euro conversion rates. In view of the comments made in these letters, the National Euro Changeover Committee would like to clarify some issues.

The NECC has always been clear on all issues which arose up to now. It has clearly stated that there would be no need to change any cash register due to euro changeover. It has also issued clear guidelines on rounding and smoothing and on the use of the term euro. All these can be easily accessed via the NECC website - www.euro.gov.mt After consultation with major stakeholders, including the consumer sector, the business sector and the banks, the NECC is now finalising guidelines on dual pricing. These will be published very shortly for the sake of all involved.

In the coming weeks and months, the NECC will gradually be gaining momentum in its information and educational campaign. This will cater for various target groups including the consumers, businesses and vulnerable groups.
