Maltese and US officials are to hold talks on a double taxation agreement today and tomorrow, Foreign Minister Michael Frendo told Leo Brincat (MLP) in reply to a parliamentary question yesterday.

He said efforts for such an agreement to be reached were boosted during the meeting in Washington between President George Bush and Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and contacts subsequently continued between the Maltese Inland Revenue Department and the US Treasury Department.

Malta's ambassador in Washington had held meetings with various US senators and Malta had been assured of support when a new treaty came before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee for confirmation.
