Industrial action at Maltapost

The Union Haddiema Maghqudin yesterday directed its members at Maltapost not to deliver packets.

This action was taken by the union after the postal operators were handed packets in hubs without the union being consulted by the management, the union said in a statement.

The UHM is claiming that the packets are putting additional burdens on postal operators to the detriment of their health and security. The union had already registered an industrial dispute with Maltapost on April 11 about this issue and had called for the intervention of the Director of Labour.

In spite of this, the union said, the management had gone ahead and introduced packets of all sizes to be delivered from hubs.

The UHM said it was not excluding the possibility of an escalation of industrial action.
