During 2005 and the first three months of this year Enemalta found 897 electricity meters whose seals had been tampered with or broken, Public Investments Minister Austin Gatt told Evarist Bartolo (MLP) in reply to a parliamentary question yesterday.

He said 438 seals had been tampered with and 439 seals were broken but there was no tampering.

Of the 438 seals which were tampered with 141 were in homes, 314 involved commercial establishments and three were in industrial concerns. The police are investigating the cases detected last year while owners of the cases detected in 2006 have been billed so as to avoid police investigations.
