Last week I was issued with a parking ticket because a car I had hired was parked in front of my garage in Mannarino Road, Birkirkara, which now has residential parking.

The warden was right in issuing the ticket because he or she was not to know that the rented car was mine. I have spoken to the tribunal since then and was told that if I submit a copy of the rental agreement I can contest the ticket.

My only concern is that if I am renting this car for two or three weeks, I am going to be issued with a ticket every day.

I called the Birkirkara council and the tribunal to see if I could obtain some sort of temporary permit (like you can abroad) and the answer was 'no'. I was told not to park on that road.

I own a garage so why take someone else's parking space? It is not always convenient to use the garage as people still park in front of it and block it, and if I am going to use the car again in two hours it is not worth the hassle.

The police at the Floriana headquarters had a different interpretation of the law!

They told me that even if the road I live in has residential parking, I can still park in front of my own garage (with a car not registered in that address).

Who is right?
