The Malta Association of Women in Business has announced a programme that is intended to recognise and support women in business in each locality. Each local council is being asked to nominate the best woman in business.
The nominated women will be invited to a seminar and will be presented with a certificate by the Malta Association of Women in Business (MAWB). This initiative will help identify women entrepreneurs who are working in different parts of Malta and Gozo and who might not be known to the association.
It is also intended to officially recognise the work that women in business are carrying out in various sectors. The local councils have been asked to choose women who add value in the products or services that are traded in, who are innovative and who practise social responsibility and good business ethics when carrying out their business.
Rosanne Galea, MAWB president, said the scheme was being launched in preparation for a seminar that will be organised to mark International Women in Business Day, which will be celebrated on May 19.
The seminar, entitled "Good practice in female-led enterprises", will include guest speakers Americam Ambassador Molly Bordonaro, herself a businesswoman, Tatjana Hine, president of the British Association of Women in Business, and Maria Criscuolo from the Italian Association of Business Women - AIDDA. International participation is expected.
On International Women in Business Day each association forming part of Femme Chefs d'Entreprises Mondiales will organise an event.
The Maltese association intends to dedicate this day to bringing Maltese and overseas business women closer together to network and to learn from each other. This event is being sponsored by the British High Commission and Bank of Valletta.
