Sta Lucija's hopes of earning a slot in the promotion play-offs suffered a setback after they lost 1-0 to Fgura on Monday.

Fgura could have edged in front after ten minutes but Joseph Mizzi's effort hit the woodwork. Saints' keeper Piscopo then saved well from an Eric Lia free-kick.

At the other end, Sta Lucija's best chances fell to Kurt Grima and Joe Grima. Three minutes before the break, a dangerous shot by Mario Farrugia was blocked by Fgura defender Jason Mifsud.

Fgura played the better football during the second half, going close to scoring through Howard Hughes and Mizzi. On 63 minutes, Fgura scored what proved to be the winning goal thanks to an excellent shot by Mizzi following a good move by Duncan Mangion. Fgura continued to create the better opportunities as Sta Lucija's late rally was warded off by the Fgura defence.

Adrian Galea's first-half goal was enough for Sirens to beat Kirkop and move closer to qualification for the promotion play-offs.

After only three minutes of the game, Sirens missed an easy opportunity through Richard Buhagiar with Kirkop replying in the 10th minute through Chris Farrugia.

Seven minutes later, Sirens drew first blood through Galea who finished off a good move by Mark Camilleri.

Before the end of the first half, Sirens might have increased their lead with efforts from Kristian Galea and Buhagiar.

After the change of ends, Sirens maintained the initiative but could not turn their supremacy into goals.
