For.u.m, an umbrella body of eight trade unions, has reiterated its insistence on being represented on the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development, saying it could be instrumental in fostering the right balance away from partisan politics.
Representation within the MCESD was a right which it was being denied, For.u.m. insisted.
It would be a pity, it said, if the government ignored the opportunity to inject a new element into the MCESD that could contribute to changes that led to unity among the social partners.
The report on pensions would soon be discussed within the MCESD.
The government, it added, should understand that democracy is not practised just by holding general or council elections.
The people wanted to participate in decision making and would not forget if they were systematically ignored.
