Frank Salt, a board member of Dar il-Kaptan, the respite home for the disabled in Mtarfa, has made an appeal for volunteers to help the home continue to provide a high standard of service.

"We are badly in need of volunteers, mainly to involve themselves in preparations for fundraising activities," Mr Salt said.

Dar Il-Kaptan was established in 1986 and over 350 families leave their children in its care for periods ranging from one day to two weeks.

In this way the home provides a most beneficial service to families who may need some time to themselves when they feel under mental and physical strain.

Mr Salt said Dar Il-Kaptan struggles to keep its operations going. But with a lot of hard work by staff and outsiders, together with fundraising and help from the government, it is kept very active.

Recently a new extension was built and this year, with money received from the Christmas fundraising campaign L-Istrina, the large garden surrounding the home is being landscaped.

Anyone interested to help can contact Antonella Agius Micallef at Dar Il-Kaptan, Rotary Drive, Triq Dar Il-Kaptan, Mtarfa on 2145 0103/4 or by e-mail: rcsmalta@waldonet.net.mt
