Two brothers were yesterday arraigned separately and each charged with trying to kill the other by shooting a gun at him in a domestic argument that broke out over a low wall in a field.

Anthony Cachia, 52, of Safi was the first to appear in court, pleading not guilty to the attempted murder of his 45-year-old brother Joseph when they argued about the field in the limits of Zurrieq on Saturday at about 5.45 p.m.

In a separate arraignment, Joseph Cachia, also of Safi, pleaded not guilty to trying to kill Anthony Cachia.

Both were also charged with the possession of a firearm at the time of the commission of the crime and breaching the peace.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti granted the brothers bail against a Lm1,000 deposit each. He ordered Anthony Cachia to sign at his local police station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Joseph Cachia is to sign every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Police Inspector Joseph Agius prosecuted.

Lawyers Patrick Valentino, Anglu Farrugia and Edward Gatt appeared for Anthony Cachia while lawyer Matthew Brincat represented Joseph Cachia.
