Appreciation - Francis Xuereb

Mr Charles Spiteri, of Ghajnsielem, writes:

On Monday, April 3, Ghajnsielem paid homage to one of its sons - Francis, known as Frank, Xuereb, who passed away aged 49. The numerous mourners following Frank, a loving husband and father of two, survived by his parents and other family members, were witness to his dedicated zeal and love towards his friends of the village and beyond.

The funeral Mass was led by parish priest Fr Joseph Zerafa, who spoke of Frank's virtues which won him great affection and support from many. From a young age, Frank had been involved in many village philanthropic clubs.

He also served as councillor from 2002 to last year. His unconditional active participation and allegiance towards his native village, family and friends have catapulted him as front-runner in promoting the village's interest. Every time he relinquished any of his important posts because of other commitments, he ended up with a longer list of new friends.

From my own experience, I always found support and understanding from Frank. Both of us being involved in the distribution of newspapers and other publications in Gozo, we co-ordinated our tasks because we understood each other very well.

This appreciation pays respect to the gentleman who always endeavoured to help persons in need. May his dedicated life towards his family and locals be an example to all.

I am sure other people join me to convey my sincere condolences to his wife and children, Josepha and Mark, parents, brothers and sisters. Many friends to whom I announced Frank's sudden death were shocked and asked me to convey their deep understanding of the harrowing times that his family is going through because of his loss.

As a Catholic I feel comfort in Christ's words, that death is not the end but a walking tunnel to a better life. We are born to die and we die to live.
