Today, ENTs, speech-language pathologists, head and neck surgeons and other voice health professionals worldwide join together to recognise World Voice Day.

This day (April 16) was established in Brazil in 1999 to encourage everyone to assess their vocal health and take action to improve or maintain good voice habits.

In Malta a considerable number of people suffer from problems related to the voice. Such problems can result from malfunction of the vocal cords or simply as a result of vocal misuse over a long time.

Speech-language pathologists play a major role in this area, since they provide voice therapy to such people. This includes specific exercises and advice on how to take care of it.

For more information contact the ASLP by e-mail at mfpb@maltanet.net or by writing to the Association of Speech-Language Pathologists, Federation of Professional Bodies, The Professional Centre, Sliema Road, Gzira.
