Objections to a proposed one-way street in Swieqi have mushroomed to encompass a much longer list of frustrations, many of them centred around the need for proper exits and entrances to the locality.
A Swieqi Residents Action Group was set up to coordinate the objections following a locality-wide petition.
The council is organising a meeting for residents at the Halland Hotel on Monday at 7 p.m.
"Residents do not want a one-way system but rather want proper entrances and exits into and out of Swieqi before the introduction of any measures limiting movement within the locality," a spokesman for the group said following a meeting of the action committee this week. "Three different projects were promised prior to three different general election campaigns, namely proper pedestrian exits under the Swieqi bridge, the flyover in Triq id-Dris onto St Andrews Road, and the two-way exit from Triq il-Qasam into Wied Ghomor leading to San Gwann. The residents also recommend a new entrance to Swieqi from the Regional Road linking it to the Upper Gardens.
"Residents also demand full consultation on traffic management before the Regional Road is closed for two years for the repairs of the bridge," the spokesman said.
