An appeal for cautiousness and good sense to prevail during Easter parties and activities for young people has been made by Sedqa, the agency against drug and alcohol abuse.
The agency said Easter has become synonymous with breaks from study and parties. Although this was not harmful, it should not be yet another excuse for substance abuse.
Young people were encouraged to get involved in healthy leisure alternatives. If they party, they should do so without resorting to substance abuse. "One should not believe that substance abuse is an important factor in socialising."
The consumption of illicit drugs or excessive alcohol consumption could lead to incidents such as aggressive behaviour, unwanted sexual relationships and traffic accidents, the agency said, saying people should not drive while under the influence of any substance.
Sedqa appealed to all party organisers to show responsibility towards young people attending Easter parties.
It urged young people to behave responsibly even at private activities.
